Auditions for the upcoming The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug are now open for candidates.

The film opens on November 17, 2017.

In this week’s “Interview With The Man Who Is Making Movies,” we speak to the director of the film, Ronan Farrow, about the casting process, the importance of auditioning for the part of Bilbo Baggins, and how he approached his casting.

“I remember it was a really, really good script, a really great script, and it was just the right time to do it,” Farrow tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“When we were in that position, we didn’t know what the right casting was going to be.

“So it was very rewarding, and very freeing, because we could do what we want to do, which is write a movie that we think is going to make a difference in peoples lives, and hopefully people will be inspired by the movies we make.””
